Deepika Padukone first look in her real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal inspired character named ‘Malti’, has been revealed and it is phenomenal. The shooting of the Meghna Gulzar directorial ‘Chhapaak’ will be starting from today.

Meghna had shared the first look photo of the actress who looks visibly disfigured in the picture, still exemplary. Captioning the image, she said, “She is courage. She is hope. She is @deepikapadukone as #Malti in #Chhapaak. Shoot begins today. Releasing on 10th January, 2020.” Deepika also, took to her twitter handle unveiling her first look and captioned it as: “A character that will stay with me forever...#Malti..Shoot begins today!#Chhapaak..Releasing-10th January, 2020.”

Releasing on 10th January 2020, the film will be shot in Delhi. Earlier this weekend, Deepika was spotted leaving Mumbai for Delhi. Deepika will be seen alongside Vikrant Massey in the film. She is not only acting but is also producing the film.

Talking about donning Deepika for the role, Meghna said, “You won’t be seeing Deepika, you know. You will be seeing a disfigured Deepika. There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika.”

Laxmi Agarwal is an acid attack survivor and is vocal about the rights of acid attack victims. Attacked in 2005 at age 15, Laxmi recently received International Women Empowerment Award 2019 for her campaign-'Stop Sale Acid'.

Meghna Gulzar has directed movies like Talvar which was based on 2008 Arushi murder case, Filhaal and Dus Kahaniya, among others. Meghna's latest directorial venture titled ‘Raazi’ won the award for ‘Best Film’ and also earned Gulzar the award for ‘Best Director’ at the 64th Filmfare Awards.
