The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated after a person has tried to climb up the Paris landmark, the company that operates the structure said. As per an official of SOCIÉTÉ D'EXPLOITATION DE LA TOUR EIFFEL (SETE) “A climber has been spotted. It’s the standard procedure: We have to stop the person, and in that case we evacuate the tower."
“We kindly advise our visitors to postpone their visit,” the SETE added on Twitter. Police said the climber was a male. It was still unclear that how the trespasser managed to get pass the stricken security system.
The Paris monument's media office said the unidentified individual tried to climb up the tourist attraction on Monday afternoon. Social media exploded with reports of the incident. “Why would you Climb up the Eiffel Tower?” one person demanded to know.
“Just having a picnic in the park when we notice there is literally a guy dangling from the Eiffel Tower,” another said.
A Paris police spokeswoman said that a team of climbing specialists including fire fighters is on the scene and in touch with the intruder. Police have made contact with the climber but do not yet know why he began his climb via the iron beams. There is no further information provided by officials about the incident, there’s no information about when the Eiffel Tower will reopen.
It’s not the first time a daredevil has attempted the stunt. British “free runner” James Kingston climbed the skyscraper in 2015 without safety ropes and without permission, escaping security cameras.
In October 2017, a young man climbing the beams and threatened to jump before police were able to convince him to come back. In 2012, a British man managed to climb to the very top of the tower before plunging to his death.
