Over 2000 tourists have been left stranded in bone-chilling cold between Marhi and Chodah-Mor below Rohtang pass after a landslide cut off the highway at Chodah-Mor on Friday evening.

As per authorities, the landslide occurred beyond Gulaba, leaving some 600 tourist vehicles stranded between Gulaba and Marhi—a place that is 36 km from Manali. Reportedly, Heavy rain on Friday forced authorities to restrict tourists to Marhi.

The snow in the region is melting fast and the water flowing down the hillsides is triggering many landslides here. Tonnes of debris are sliding down the hill on the highway. The landslide has also damaged a stretch of the road.

All Border Roads Organisation (BRO) machines are engaged in snow clearance beyond Rohtang pass, the local administration is struggling to arrange an earth mover machine to clear the highway. This has left over 200 tourists stranded.

Manali Sub Divisional Magistrate Ashwani Kumar said he expected vehicular traffic to be restored in two hours.
