Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday has ordered an inquiry into Tweets by Indian celebrities on farmers' protest against three farm laws enacted by the Centre.

Last week, several Bollywood celebrities and sports persons including Akshay Kumar, lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Suniel Shetty, Virat Kohli, Ajay Devgan, among others came in support of the government via social media, using hashtags #IndiaagAgainstpropaganda #IndiaTogether in counter-response to the tweets by international celebrities like Rihanna and Greta Thunberg who extended their support to the farmers.

After the stir on social media, Congress leader Sachin Sawant has ordered an investigation to find out whether the celebrities Tweeted under some pressure by the Modi government or the celebrities just wanted to support the centre on the controversial Farm Laws. Sawant today had a meeting with Deshmukh relating to the same.

"Reactions are coming in from across celebrities across the world. Celebrities like Rihanna also responded. Following that renowned person from their field - Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Ji, Akshay Kumar have tweeted. But you have a question about the timing of the tweets and if it was done due to pressure, the tweet by Akshay Kumar and Saina Nehwal looks similar," said Anil Deshmukh.

"Whatever objection you have raised, our intelligence agency will probe," further adding that the lines written were the same, even the timings are the same. He said, “This is a serious matter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have spoken to the farmers and have ended the issue."

There are many similarities in celebrities tweets which suggest that it was a planned movement, said Anil Deshmukh, adding that their tweets will be investigated by the state intelligence. The minister also claimed that tere have been several incidents in the past when the Centre has acted against who has spoken against the government.

Maharashtra Congress spokesperson and the complainant Sachin Sawant said," Stars like Sachin Tendulkar or Lata Mangeshkar never even expressed grief on anybody's death but suddenly started tweeting in support of the government. So we have registered a complaint against it and State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has ordered a probe. We are not questioning anybody's freedom of expression but the pattern of tweets suggests that the Modi government even pressurized these Bharat Ratnas."

Anil Deshmukh said that there are common words like ‘amicable’ used in the Tweets and Suniel Shetty even tagged BJP leader Hitesh Jain in his tweet which raises suspicion, Akshay Kumar and Saina Nehwal’s Tweets are the same, adding that, “If BJP is intimidating our national heroes, they should be provided security.”

Raj Thackeray on Sunday had said that the government should have exposed them (Sachin and Lata Mangeshkar) to such trolling by involving them in their campaign to counter international celebrities Tweets.

BJP leader Ram Kadam has slammed Deshmukh’s decision of probe saying that Congress has become a spokesperson for those who malign our country and investigating Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeskar's tweet is shameful. So, BJP requires an apology and withdrawal of the order, said Kadam.
