On Friday, a gunman opened fire at a mosque in New Zealand killing many worshippers. As the police has launched a massive manhunt Christchurch city has been isolated. New Zealand media has reported death of around 27 people. However, death toll can’t be confirmed. Police have informed multiple fatalities at two mosques. However, they have said that it was unclear how many attackers were involved.

Video footage which is being widely circulated on social media, which seem to have been taken by a gunman and posted online live as the attack unfolded, showed him driving to one mosque, entering it and shooting randomly at people inside. In the video worshippers, dead or wounded, can be seen lying huddled on the floor of the mosque.

However, reuters was unable to confirm the authenticity of the footage. “This is one of New Zealand darkest days,” said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. “Clearly what has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

Witnesses have told the media persons that a man dressed in a military-style, camouflage outfit was carrying an automatic rifle and had randomly started shooting people in the Al Noor mosque. The Bangladesh cricket team was slated to arrive at the mosque for Friday prayers, when the shooting occurred. However, safety of all the members has been ensured.
