The Indian Congress party on Wednesday during a press briefing had condemned the Red Fort violence on Republic Day and made Amit Shah responsible for the law and order failure, yesterday.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala demanded Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation for “allowing miscreants to enter Red Fort”, calling Red Fort Tuesday’s event an “‘intelligence failure”.
“It was an intelligence failure and Amit Shah should be dismissed from his post immediately. This is the second incident in the capital in the last year,” Randeep Surjewala said, referring to the Delhi riots in February last year as the other incident during CAA protest.
Turning guns directly at the Government, Surjewala said that planned efforts were made to dilute the farmer’s agitation by maligning and defaming them and called Amit Shah the weakest Home Minister, alleging that PM Modi was protecting him.
Objecting FIR’s against farm leaders “instead of miscreants”, Surjewala said, “Home minister completely failed to check the miscreants and rather than taking any action against miscreants, FIRs were registered against farm leaders.”
Claiming Deep Sidhu being close to BJP, Surjewala said that his involvement in the Red Fort violence proves that it was a conspiracy to defame farmers’ union and their agitation.
Surjewala questioned why deep Sidhu is still free and why the government is silent over Sidhu’s connection with BJP.
The Congress spokesperson also raised concerns over inaction by the police at the Red Fort, he said, ‘Why did Delhi police stand as mute spectators while the violent protesters went on a rampage? Congress maintained that the only beneficiary out of yesterday’s mayhem is the government, the farmers have patiently sat on a peaceful protest for two months and why should they dilute their Surjewala stated that Red Fort event was a preplanned motive to create lawlessness.
He questioned why the investigative agencies failed to weed out the criminal elements that were present in large gatherings to dislodge the farmer’s movement.
Surjewala has demanded immediate arrest of Deep Sidhu and his aides.
The national spokesperson also requested the government to drop their arrogance and repeal the farm laws and instead of playing the waiting game with the farmers.
On Republic Day, hundreds of farmers deviated from the pre-planned route of their tractor rally and engaged in violent clashes with the Delhi Police at ITO before making their way to the Red Fort and the protesters even hoisted a Nishan Sahib, the holy Sikh flag, on a pole mast.
The protesting farmers went on a rampage destroying private and public properties.
22 FIRs have been registered regarding the violence, in which over 300 police personnel were injured.
Meanwhile, two farmers organisations have stepped back from the farmer's protest, saying they have nothing to do with the violence and such things are “unacceptable”.
