New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Friday, reserved for orders a criminal contempt plea filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Meenakshi Lekhi against Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who has unconditionally apologized for wrongfully attributing the phrase “Chowkidar chor hai” to the court.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi representing Meenakshi said that Mr. Gandhi was “cornered” into giving an apology after the court refused to accept his earlier two affidavits in the case. While countering Mukul, senior advocate A.M. Singhvi said that far from being “cornered”, his client had “gracefully” apologized to the court.
