Serial bomb blast in Srilanka, 99 dead over 300 injured

The first explosion was reported at St Anthony's Church in Colombo and St Sebastian's in the town of Negombo just outside the capital

Colombo: The celebration of Easter turned into a tragedy when a series of six bomb blast shook Srilanka on Sunday. The explosion targeted three churches and two elite hotels of Srilanka.

According to the police, 50 people have died in Katuwapitiya and 25 in Batticaloa. The first explosion was reported at St Anthony's Church in Colombo and St Sebastian's in the town of Negombo just outside the capital.

Three explosions were reported from the five-star hotels, the Shangrila, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury.

According to police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera, “The blasts occurred at around 8.45 a.m. (local time) as the Easter Sunday masses were in progress in churches.” After reports of blasts in Sri Lanka broke out, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she is in constant touch with High Commissioner in Colombo.
