Supreme Court suggests petitioners to resolve the 'Ayodhya case' by mediation

The top court said that the matter is not concerned with the land but 'sentiment and faith'

Supreme Court Ayodhya Verdict Babri Masjid

Hearing various petitions on the Ayodhya Land Dispute, the Supreme Court bench has suggested to resolve the issue by mediation saying that this matter is not concerned with a piece of land but with sentiments and beliefs.

On the suggestion, various religious groups showed their resent stating a mediation would not be able to bind the communities into a solution but the Supreme Court bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi said, "It is not only about property. It is about mind, heart and healing, if possible".

"Don't tell us about history, we also know history. We have no control over the past. We cannot undo who invaded, what Babur may have done, who was king at the time, whether there was a mosque or temple," said Justice Bobde.

On the question of how to bind millions of people to the decision taken by mediation, Justice Bobde stated, "When a party is the representative of a community, whether it is a court proceeding in a representative suit or mediation, it should be binding."

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar has also been actively pursuing both the communities and their leaders to bring them on mediation grounds.
