A banker named Hakan Atilla from Turkey is been moved to the immigration detention center for deportation. Reportedly he was released from the federal prison on 19th July and was transferred to the detention center.
This Turkey man is 48 years old who was a deputy director-general at Turkish state lenderHalkabank. He was arrested for violating the US sanctions on its rival Iran.
He was taken into custody in 2017 in New York and in last January he was found guilty of bank fraud. Atilla was found guilty of bank fraud last January and he was sent to prison for 32 months in prison in May of 2018.
Turkey intervened in the scene and said that his arrest is a “politically motivated”. Atilla is in New York and will remain with ICE until his deportation to Turkey next week.
Atilla was arrested after the arrest of Reza Sarraf in the case of violating sanctions on Iran who then gave his statement against Atilla. The statements made by Sarraf were the key to the arrest of Atilla.
Well, surely Turkey and Atilla will be feeling the relief after his deportation.
