Politicians and locals are furious at the Punjab government's proposal to build a mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park in the Mattewara forest in Ludhiana's Sekhowal village beside the Sutlej.

Yesterday, the PAC invited locals to the textile park project site in order to raise awareness of the possible impact of industry in the region. The project is planned between Sutlej and Mattewara forests. The environment will be greatly impacted by this. PAC member Jaskirat Singh said that the decision is up to the locals.

CM Bhagwant Mann has called the Public Action Committee (PAC) for a meeting today to discuss the matter.

A protest was held yesterday in Mattewara under the leadership of the Public Action Committee. A large number of people participated in it. Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the president of the Punjab Congress, Akali MLA Manpreet Ayali, SAD Amritsar President, and Sangrur MP Simranjit Mann also took part. Everyone protested against the destruction of the forests of Mattewara.

The government was trying to stop the protest. CM Bhagwant Mann met some people in Chandigarh to discuss this.

According to Public Action Committee, the Aam Aadmi Party had previously opposed the factory in Mattewara. Apart from Bhagwant Mann, Harpal Cheema and Kultar Sandhwan opposed it. After the government's formation, now the same Aam Aadmi Party is setting up a factory here, citing it as a central project.
