In a massive political development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday appointed prominent industrialist Nitin Kohli as the Halqa In-Charge (Constituency Head) for Jalandhar Central. This move comes in the wake of the recent arrest of sitting MLA Raman Arora. Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora was arrested in a corruption case, and hence, it created a vacuum in leadership that the party has swiftly moved to fill.
Nitin Kohli was inducted into the party by AAP Punjab Incharge Manish Sisodia, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, AAP Punjab Working President Sherry Kalsi, and Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat. The event took place today at 1:00 PM at the Radisson Hotel, Jalandhar.
In an exclusive conversation with True Scoop, Nitin Kohli expressed gratitude to the higher command for showing faith in him. He hinted that he has solid plans regarding the development of the city. He also emphasised that these plans will not just be on paper and brought to life under the guidance of AAP.
The appointment strongly signals that the ruling party is preparing to field Nitin Kohli as its official candidate from the Jalandhar Central seat in the 2027 assembly elections. Traditionally, the Halqa In-Charge plays a critical role in driving development work within the constituency and acts as the party’s representative on the ground. In most cases, the individual holding this position is eventually nominated as the official electoral candidate.
Nitin Kohli, already a well-known figure in Jalandhar for his contributions to industry, sports, and education, brings with him a wide support base. He is considered a fresh and non-controversial face in the city’s political landscape.. His influence across diverse voter segments, along with a clean image and a reputation for solving public issues proactively, could benefit AAP in the upcoming elections.
