Abhinav Choudhary, fighter pilot martyred in MiG-21 crash was against dowry, he took just one rupee as shagun

The young pilot refused to take dowry during his marriage and has given a positive message to society.

An Indian Air Force Bison MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashed at Langiana Khurd village of Baghapurana in Moga district of Punjab early this Friday in which the pilot has been reported dead, IAF officials said. It is being learned that the aircraft was on a routine training sortie when the accident took place and the pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries. 

The aircraft caught fire as soon as it touched the ground. SP Gurdeep Singh told that during the training session, Pilot Abhinav Choudhary took off from Suratgarh in Rajasthan but the plane crashed in the Moga district of Punjab. Abhinav was aware of the plane crash therefore, jumped out of the aircraft. But the parachute did not open, he was martyred because of a neck injury. 

After listening to the news about Abhinav’s demise, there was havoc of grief in his family.

Abhinav was the resident of Pusar village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. He was married to Sonika Ujjwal on 25th December 2019 (17 months back). The young pilot refused to take dowry during his marriage and has given a positive message to society. His family also returned the money gifted by the girl’s family during the events of marriage. His father Satendra Choudhary accepted only one rupee as a shagun for the wedding ceremony. 

Abhinav stood against this evil practice in society and said that the dowry system must be banned and money cannot tie the two families into a relationship. 

Abhinav Choudhary passed 12th from RIMC Dehradun, after this, he was selected for the NDA. Later, in Pune, he completed Air Force Training at AFA.
