A police inspector's vehicle on Monday morning mowed downtwo girls on Phagwara-Jalandhar Highway, while one of the girls died on the spot;the other one was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a localhospital here.

Expressing his heartfelt condolences and sympathy with the bereavedfamily, YouthCongress President Jalandhar Urban Angad Datta demanded strict action in thismatter. He has also demanded the dismissal of Inspector.

Angad Datta said that the action must be taken under IPC302 for the murder of the girl in this case. Angad said that whether thewrongdoer is a police officer or a common man, the law is the same forall. 

According to media reports, Punjab Police inspector AmritPal Singh was driving the Hoshiarpur number Vehicle. He has been arrested now.He is currently posted at Harike Pattan. The incident took place Monday morningat Dhanewali Village on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway. Seeing this local peoplestopped traffic and blocked the highway causing a traffic jam.

Angad Dutta said that youth congress has full sympathywith the family of the deceased girl.

He said that the CCTV Footage has been released in which thegirls can be clearly seen taking a step back after seeing the vehicle approachingtowards them, however the car still rammed into them.

“It is a clear case of murder and should be treated assuch. The punishment should be given as per law”, he said while adding that Youthcongress demands a proper action in this matter. The police inspector must bedismissed with immediate effect
