The renowned child actor Adam Rich, best known for supporting a pageboy haircut in the TV series Eight is Enough, died on 7 January 2023 due to circumstances that were not known at that time. However, according to recent autopsy reports from the L.A. County Medical Examiner, the cause of his death was revealed to be an accidental fentanyl overdose. While his primary cause of death was reported to be the opioid, Rich also had non-toxic amounts of alcohol and lorazepam—an anti-anxiety drug—in his system at the time of his demise, as per the report. The actor was just 54 when he was found dead in his home earlier this year. The law enforcements spotted no foul play and his overdose was confirmed to be an overdose after further investigation.

The actor struggled with heavy substance use his entire life since he first tried smoking marijuana at the tender age of 14 and almost died from a Valium overdose in 1989 when he was just 20. He was also arrested for attempted burglary of a pharmacy and driving under alcohol influence in 1991 and 2002 respectively. He was in drug rehabilitation at least three times. Rich's rep Danny Deraney confirmed his cause of death to E! News, adding that the lorazepam was a prescription from his doctor and the star had not been using drugs and was clean "for quite some time." "If there is any silver lining, it's that our suspicions were correct that it was an accidental overdose from fentanyl and not recreational drugs," Deraney told E! News. "We hope this closes the chapter on any suspicions people had and now the family can have some privacy as we move forward."

Rich was born on 12 October 1968 in New York City in a Jewish family. He had an interest in many types of sports and drawing. Besides Eight is Enough, his most notable television credits were Code Red, Baywatch, and Dungeons & Dragons among many others. He made his small-screen debut with The Six Million Dollar Man in 1976. He even made it to VH1's list of the greatest 100 kid stars of all time, locking in the #73 slot.
