
O/O District Public Relations Officer, Jalandhar, December29- To control the stray-cattle-related road mishaps and save the preciouslives in the district, the administration is set to augment the capacity ofKaniya Kalan Gaushala in Shahkot to 800 cattle by January 15, 2021.
The work of a new shed that would enhance the capacity ofKaniya Kalan Gaushala from 500 cattle to 800 cattle is being carried out on awar footing level.
Participating in a video-conference presided over by ChiefSecretary Vini Mahajan on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner said that the cost ofthe new shed is Rs 14 lakh and work is near completion.
Thori said this new shed would be adequately equipped withelectricity, fodder, and drinking water facility, with managers, for theanimals. Deputy Commissioner added that Kaniya Kalan Gaushala has three cattlesheds in it and these house 519 cattle presently.
He said that following the construction of this new shedcompletes, the directions have been issued to the rural development andpanchayat department, Municipal Corporation to find out a suitable piece ofland to develop another Gaushala in Jalandhar.
He said that the immediate need to prevent the mishaps is toshift the cattle from the roads and ensure proper care of animals.
Thori further asked the animal husbandry department to workon sticking night-glow radium neck belts on cattle on the roads to preventaccidents and told police officials about beginning a helpline for people wherethey can report about stray cattle.
Deputy Commissioner said that district administration hasadopted a multi-pronged strategy to combat the stray cattle menace which hasled to the increase of road mishaps in Jalandhar.
In the meeting, DCP Traffic Naresh Dogra said since January1, 2020, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have issued 44196 without helmetschallans, 441 challans for over-speeding besides 1244 challans for tripleriding.
