US conducts 2 airstrikes against Al-Shabab terrorists in Somalia: AFRICOM

United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said that two precision airstrikes have been conducted by US against Al-Shabab terrorists in Somalia

On Tuesday, United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) said that two precision airstrikes have been conducted by US against Al-Shabab terrorists in Somalia over the past 48 hours.

These precision airstrikes support Somali partners, to reduce Al-Shabaab safe havens, degrade the terrorists infrastructure, and destroy terrorist equipment, United States Africa Command added. 

On February 3, the first airstrike targeted the militants in the area of Gandarshe, in the Lower Shebelle Region, AFRICOM said. 

The second attack targeted the vicinity near Leego on February 5, in the Bay Region, it added.

"At this time, it was assessed no civilians were injured or killed in either airstrike," AFRICOM said.

Al-Shabab emerged in Somalia in 2006 and has claimed that numerous terrorist attacks throughout the region. 

The group has sworn allegiance to the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization which is banned in Russia.
