A bride from Odisha eloped from her marriage with her lover, according to a report published on India Today website. To avert the so called 'humiliation' the family members got their minor girl married to the groom at Kalahandi in Odisha.
After getting information about the event, police reached the spot and rescued the girl. It was too late because the marriage was already solemnized. The minor is said to be 15 years old. The minor girl could now stay at her home or at hostel if she wishes to complete her education, as per the report.
The police was quoted by India today as saying, "The minor will be allowed to stay with her husband at her in-laws' place only after she attains 18-years of age."
Arjun, the brother of minor girl said, during the marriage ceremony they came to know that his elder sister fled from their home and they decided to marry his younger sister to the groom.
