Ever since Donald Trump took oath as the new President of the United States, illegal immigrants living in America have gotten into trouble. Illegal immigrants are constantly being searched and deported in the US. In such a situation, now the US police have also started entering the Gurudwaras to find illegal immigrants.

As per reports, Policemen of the US Department of Homeland Security inspected the Gurudwaras of New York and New Jersey and gathered information about illegal immigrants. As per reports, it is believed that some Gurudwaras of New York and New Jersey have been used by Sikh separatists and illegal immigrants. A spokesperson of the US Police (Homeland Security) said that now criminals will not be able to hide in schools and churches in America to avoid arrest. The Trump administration will not tie the hands of the brave law enforcement officers of America but will trust their actions.

Sikh outfits object to US Police action

Expressing displeasure over this action of the US police, the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDF) expressed concern over the cancellation of guidelines in which sensitive areas like places of worship have been identified. In fact, earlier such action was prohibited at these places.

SALDF said that this change in policy is disturbing. Since the change, US police officers have started visiting gurdwaras in New York and New Jersey. The organization's executive director Kiran Kaur Gill reportedly said, "We are extremely concerned about the decision of the Department of Homeland Security to end the security of sensitive areas and then target places of worship like gurdwaras."

Gill said that gurdwaras are not just places of worship, but they are important community centers. Here Sikhs and the wider community are given support, nourishment, and spiritual solace. Targeting these places for legal action puts the sanctity of our faith at risk. This sends a frightening message to immigrant communities across America.

The Sikh organization said, "It is not acceptable for Sikh faith and tradition that our gurdwaras are subjected to government surveillance and raids are conducted with or without warrants. This will affect the ability of Sikhs to gather and connect."

For the unversed, the US Police visit to Gurudwaras came after a directive from Acting DHS Secretary Benjamine Huffman was issued shortly after Donald Trump assumed office as the 47th President of the United States. The directive is opposite to the Biden administration’s guidelines that restricted immigration enforcement actions in or near “sensitive” areas such as places of worship, schools, and hospitals.

“This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens—including murderers and rapists—who have illegally entered our country,” a DHS spokesperson stated.
