In a tragic development, an Air India flight to London crashed on Thursday afternoon near Ahmedabad Airport. The passenger flight was carrying 242 passengers on board, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. DGCA issued a statement in which it informed, "Air India, B787 dreamliner aircraft, AI 171, Ahmedabad to London (Gatwick) airport, had crashed into a residential area (Meghani Nagar), took off at 1:38 PM crashed 5 minutes after take off. Pilot in Command Sumit Sabharwal, Co-Pilot Clive Kunder. There were 232 passengers, 230 adults, and 2 infants on board. Crew 10 + 2, total 242."

Three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, comprising 90 personnel, have been moved from Gandhinagar to the plane crash site. A total of three more teams are being moved from Vadodara.

Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is going to Ahmadabad. He is going from Vijayawada. It was a London-bound Air India Dreamliner. The flight took off at 1.17 pm. Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Gujarat CM and Police Commissioner about the Ahmedabad plane crash incident on Thursday.

PM Modi spoke to HM Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He has asked them to go to Ahmedabad and ensure all possible assistance is extended to those affected in the wake of the air mishap. 

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Air India, issued a statement on Tata Group's X handle that reads, "With profound sorrow I confirm that Air India Flight 171 operating Ahmedabad London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event. At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families. We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted. Further updates will be shared as we receive more verified information. An emergency centre has been activated and support team have been set up for families seeking information."
