
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi,starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, has a new release date. Justmonths after the director picked January 6, 2022, as his release date, onMonday he announced that the film will now release on 18 February 2022.
The makers issued a statement on Mondayannouncing the new release date of the film. "We are glad to announce thatSanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' has a new release date. Producedby Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film willrelease on February 18, 2022," the statement read.
Interestingly, it was director SS Rajamouliwho revealed the reason behind the film's delayed release. In a tweet,Rajamouli thanked director Bhansali for postponing the film's release on hisrequest. 'RRR' that features Alia in a prominent role, was scheduled to clashwith 'Gangubai' on January 7, 2022. However, with SLB agreeing to move hisrelease, the films will not be forced to share business at the box office.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographicalcrime-drama chronicling the life of a girl named Gangubai from Kathiawad whobecame one of the most powerful, loved and respected women from Kamathipuraduring the 1960s. “Gangubai Kathiawadi” also stars Seema Pahwa and has cameoappearances by Ajay Devgn and Huma Qureshi. It also marks the Bollywood debutof TV actor-dancer Shantanu Maheshwari.
In an Instagram post earlier this year, AliaBhatt summed up her experience of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. “Thisfilm and set have been through two lockdowns... two cyclones... director andactor getting covid during the making!!! the troubles the set has faced isanother film all together...Being directed by Sir has been a dream all my life,but I don't think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on forthese two years... I walk out of this set a diff person today! I love you sir!Thank you for being you... There is truly no one like you," Alia wrote inher caption.
