Among the most awaited movies of the year starring Diljit Dosanjh, Amar Singh Chamkila's trailer was released on Thursday. Diljit Dosanjh will be seen playing the character of the late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila. Apart from Diljit Dosanjh, Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra will also be seen in the movie. Directed by Rockstar fame film-maker Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila will be released on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming movie is based on the true story of Amar Singh Chamkila who was assassinated along with his wife Amarjot in 1988.
Going by trailer, the filmmakers have called Amar Singh Chamkila the 'Elvis (Presley) of Punjab'. The trailer showcases the life of Chamkila, who rose from a humble background and became the "highest record-selling artiste" of Punjab.
For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila is regarded as one of the best live stage performers that Punjab has ever produced and is extremely popular with the village audience. His monthly bookings regularly outnumbered the number of days in the month. Amar Chamkila is generally regarded as one of the greatest and influential Punjabi artists of all time. However, Chamkila and his wife Amarjot were assassinated along with two members of their band on 8 March 1988. The case remains unsolved.
