In a massive development, the Income Tax (IT) Department on Tuesday carried out surveys at the Delhi office of the British broadcaster BBC. As per a newswire, a team of at least 60 to 70 officers are involved in the survey that is underway. It has been learnt that the phones of the officers involved in the survey are switched off and people are being restricted to enter or leave the BBC office. Notably, the BBC has been in controversy after it aired a documentary accusing Prime Minister Modi's hands in the Gujrat riots. Despite of the fact, the Supreme Court of India gave a clean chit to PM Modi in the Gujrat riots, the BBC's documentary suggested that he was in someway involved in this. The BBC documentary head also started a political fight and multiple universities including JNU aired the controversial documentary of BBC inside the University premises.

It is pertinent to mention here that a few hours before the raid Union Home Minister Amit Shah had criticised the BBC documentary on 2002 Gujarat riots. "The truth emerges despite a thousand conspiracies around it. They are after Modi since 2002. But every time, Modi Ji comes out stronger & more popular," Shah had said. The income tax team has reached for verification of a few documents, reported a newswire.
