Hours before Congress General Secretary Harish Rawat wasscheduled to visit Punjab to de-escalate tension between the two factions, PPCCPresident Navjot Singh Sidhu has once again cornered his own government and previousAkali government on the ‘inaction’ against those involved in drug peddling case.
While sharing plight of the youth of Punjab and thousandsof tormented mothers who have lost their children due to the drug menace spreadacross the state by notorious drug mafia, Sidhu said that the people of stateare eagerly awaiting for the report of Special Task Force (STF) on BikramjitSingh Majithia, ex-Akali minister and brother-in-law of former Deputy ChiefMinister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
He said that STF report on Majithia in the Rs 6000 croreBhola Drug Racket is likely to be opened by Division Bench of the Punjab andHaryana High Court on September 2.
The PPCC chief said that as the date is approaching, alleyes are on the High Court, and the people especially those who have lost theirinnocent children to the drug menace have high hopes that a stern action wouldbe taken against the main culprit. He said that judiciary of the country hasalways proved to be a true saviour of the citizens.
Questioning the Government inaction, Sidhu said thatdespite the High Court’s directions, both these governments had done nothing toextradite the 13 drug smugglers back to India, who peddled drugs in Punjab andsmuggled drugs to some countries. These drug smugglers operated under the coverof government security using VIP vehicles provided by former minister BikramjitSingh Majithia.
The state Congress chief said that even a common man cansense that why these drug smugglers had not been extradited since the last fiveyears. “Because had they been brought to book, they would have spilled thebeans and would have exposed the unholy nexus of drug peddlers andpoliticians,” Sidhu added.
Sidhu said that these accused not only roamed in the VIPvehicles of Majithia under security cover but they also used to reside withhim. He said that money exchange with Amritsar-based businessman Jagjit SinghChahal and statements of wrestler-turned-cop Bhola and Majithia’s formerelection agent Maninder Singh alias Bittu Aulakh are strong proofs ofMajithia’s involvement in this case. “What are we hiding? Why no action? Why notransparency? Why this delay,” Sidhu questioned.
Saying that it is the cause of saving Punjab’s futuregenerations from the clutches of drugs, all eyes are on the Hon’ble High Courtto save them, as the people of Punjab are eagerly awaiting for the STF reportto be unsealed.
With this, the Punjab Congress chief gave a clarion callto the people in this big battle to wipe out the menace of drugs from this Holyland of Gurus and Peers.
