Congress Punjab state President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring's wife Amrita Warring sparked outrage in the Sikh community by making controversial statements regarding the Gurus. She compared the palm of the Gurus with palm of the Congress.

Claiming that Guru Nanak Dev Ji's handprint was the original symbol of the Congress party, Warring argued that the party's choice of the "panja" as its symbol was a homage to the revered Sikh guru. Not only this, she also compared the “panja” to the palm of Mahavir Jain.

She can be heard saying "Votes should go to Guru Nanak Dev ji's Panja. Congress chose the Panja because all the great Gurus like Mahavir showed Panjas". The opposition accused Amrita of exploiting religious sentiments to incite voters.

Amarinder Singh Raja Warring will be contesting the Ludhiana Lok Sabha Seat on the Congress ticket this year. Warring will be at loggerheads with BJP's Ravneet Bittu. Polling in Punjab will take place in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on June 1.
