In a massive development, India in the wee hours of May 7, 2025, launched Operation Sindoor and carried out Air Strikes on terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). India's Operation Sindoor came as a response to cowardly terror attacks carried out by the LeT offshoot TRF, backed by Pakistan, in which 26 Indian tourists and 1 Nepali tourist were slaughtered in Pahalgam, Kashmir. As per India Today report, over 80 terrorists were killed in India's airstrike in Pakistan and PoK. As a result, Pakistan in fear started firing at Indian posts in thre border areas.

What's happening in Punjab after Operation Sindoor?
Following the air strike, heightened security measures have been implemented across Punjab and Haryana. Authorities have declared a high alert in Haryana, while five border districts in Punjab — Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur — have ordered the closure of all schools until further notice.
Airports in Punjab shutdown
Chandigarh and Amritsar airports have been shut down until further orders. At Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, all flights have been cancelled until 10 AM as a precaution. Qatar Airways flight QTR54B, en route from Doha to Amritsar, was diverted from Pakistani airspace and rerouted to Muscat. A SpiceJet flight from Sharjah to Amritsar was also cancelled. Flights from Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi to Amritsar have been suspended until 10 AM.
Air India flights scheduled to arrive at Chandigarh airport have been canceled until 12 PM.
Punjab Govt's programs called off for the day
All public programs of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal in Punjab have been cancelled for the day in response to the developing situation.
Increased Security in Ambala
In Ambala, drone flights have been banned, and intensified security checks are underway. At Ambala Cantonment Railway Station, Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams are inspecting passenger luggage and maintaining heightened vigilance.
Schools Closed in Punjab
District Collectors in Amritsar and Gurdaspur have confirmed school closures. Schools in Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur have also been shut until further orders, in line with precautionary steps taken across the state.
