In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, in which India carried out Air Strikes on 9 terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, Indian border states, including Punjab, have been put on high alert. Sensing Pakistani misadventure, India has shut down flight operations from multiple airports. Amritsar Airport on Wednesday announced that it is shutting down its services till 5:30 am on May 10, 2025.
Apart from Amritsar Airport, security arrangements have been tightened at Attari Border and Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar. As a precaution, the Retreat Ceremony at the Attari Border in Amritsar has been canceled till further notice. A message has been given by the Airport Authority - All concerned are informed, all commercial/civilian domestic and international flight services from Amritsar Airport have been suspended till 05:30 am on 10.05.2025.
All 22 flights of today have been canceled from Amritsar Airport
ADCP-2, Srivinela said that all 22 flights of Amritsar today have been canceled. Orders have been given to keep the airport closed till further notice. Passengers have been informed about the cancellation of flights through messages.
Qatar Airways flight number QTR54B, which was coming from Doha to Amritsar, was diverted from Pakistan's airspace and sent to Muscat Airport in Oman. This flight was scheduled to land in Amritsar at 2:10 pm.
SpiceJet flight coming from Sharjah to Amritsar has also been cancelled.
All flights coming to Amritsar from Pune, Mumbai and Delhi have been cancelled.
Almost all airlines, including IndiGo, have issued an advisory saying that all passengers should contact the airline and confirm the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.
Why was vigilance increased in Amritsar?
The distance from Amritsar to the Pakistan border is about 32 km. But the important thing is that India has carried out an air strike in Murid-Ke in Pakistani province of Punjab, which is just 60 km from Amritsar. These important steps have been taken keeping in view the seriousness.
Chandigarh Airport also shut down till further notice
Chandigarh Airport took to its official X handle and issued a travel advisory which reads, "Due to changing airspace conditions in the region, all flights to and from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, are suspended until further notice. For further assistance, rescheduling or refund, please contact your respective airlines. We appreciate your understanding. For future updates, please follow us."
