A massive fire suddenly broke out suddenly early morning at Bansal Sweets restaurant located on Lawrence Road, Amritsar. The cause of the fire could not be determined. Municipal Corporation and Fire Brigade vehicles were alerted of the fire at around 4 AM. The fire was brought to a simmer after about 4 hours of hard work.
According to reports, the fire started in the sweet shop’s kitchen and subsequently spread to the restaurant as well. According to a fire-fighter at the scene, the fire department received the information early in the morning informing them of a fire on Lawrence Road. Fire brigades were promptly deployed in order to control the blaze. It took the firefighters about 4 hours to bring the fire under control.
Bansal Sweets has a long association with controversies as Income tax had raided the sweet shop in 2022. During this period, the multi-storey building of Bansal Sweets built by the Improvement Trust was under investigation. According to reports, the building was allotted to the community center at a price less than the quota and was subsequently bought by Bansal. When this matter came up in the media, orders were given to cancel the allotment, but due to political influence, this matter has remained a cold case.
