An elephant who plays ‘cricket’, what would you call it? A happy or depressing sight?

In the ending days of March, the year 2021 started resembling like 2020. It feels like ‘2020 once again’. Amid the second wave of coronavirus, India is facing a huge spike in cases and deaths. The health infrastructure is overburdened and facing shortages. From oxygen shortage and ICU beds to medicine shortage, many states are facing turmoils in treating covid patients. Where each morning we are delivered with one or the other bad news once in a while we get a treat of relaxation.

The internet is circulating a playful picture of an elephant. The video is shared by one of the Twitter users. In that video, an elephant can be seen playing with a ball while he is surrounded by many boys. Four to five boys can be seen playing cricket with the elephant. Along with the video, the user wrote, “have you seen an elephant playing cricket? Well he is better than many international players”.

Under this post many users are enjoying the playful elephant and loving the innocence of the animal. However, most of them have criticized and expressed sorrow over this condition. One of the Twitter users wrote, “people don’t realize how animals come to be in this situation. Being trapped and forced, usually with punishment until they follow instructions to do these ridiculous stunts so people can profit from them. They should be in nature with their own species”.

Replying to the same tweet, someone writes, “actually elephants in India are very well kept. They form close bonds with the humans caring for them. Think of this like how you would think of a dog or a cat playing ball”.
