
The Aquila restaurantat Ansal Plaza, where a woman was allegedly denied entry as she was wearingsaree, has been shut after being issued a closure notice by the South DelhiMunicipal Corporation.
SDMC Mayor MukeshSuryan said on Wednesday that a closure notice was issued to Aquila Restaurant,which is located at Ansal Plaza in Andrews Ganj, for operating without a validlicence.
The notice, issued onSeptember 24, stated that the area public health inspector found during a checkthat the facility was running without a health trade licence. The healthinspector also flagged unhygienic conditions and encroachment on public land.
"The publichealth inspector again inspected the site on September 24 and found that thetrade is running under the same condition. You are directed to close the tradewithin 48 hours of the receipt of this notice failing which suitable actionincluding sealing will be taken without assigning further notice," theSDMC notice issued to the restaurant-owner said.
The owner of the eateryhas reportedly closed down the restaurant. He was quoted saying, “Ihave closed down the above-said trade immediately and I shall not run the sametrade without SDMC Trade Licence under the unsanitary conditions from a healthpoint of view and create a nuisance.”
Recently, theaforementioned restaurant had received a lot of flak after a 10-secondvideo emerged on social media platform on September 20, in which astaff member of the restaurant was seen stopping a woman identified as AnitaChoudhary from entering as she was wearing a saree. The staff member in thevideo was seen saying, “saree is not a smart casual” dress.
