A Junior Commissioned Army Officer (JCO) attained martyrdom on Wednesday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

JCO Rajesh Kumar lost his life in the Keri area of the Rajouri sector, the Army said in a statement. 

The JCO deployed on a forward post in the Tarkundi sector was injured in Pakistan firing and later succumbed, police sources said.

However, the ceasefire violation took place three days after another JCO had lost his life in a small arms fire by Pakistan in Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector.

The Pakistani troops had targeted the forward posts in Kalsiyan, Khanger, Bhawani areas of Nowshera, injuring the JCO. He was immediately evacuated to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Pakistan has been violating the ceasefire on the LoC with impunity since the beginning of 2020. In over 2,720 ceasefire violations, 27 civilians have been killed and another 100 injured.
