A mentally disturbed soldier committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in New Cantt area of Kapurthala. After getting the information of the incident, police of Kotwali reached the spot, took the dead body and kept the same in civil hospital.
SI Sukhwinder Singh said on Friday, he was informed by a control room in New Cantt that a constable Anandan Palani s/o Palani Perumal resident of New Cantt native Tamil Nadu had committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree.
Apparently, the soldier is said to be mentally disturbed due to some domestic problem. Fellow soldiers said, that Anandan Palani used to work as an electrician in 88 Battalion.

Confirming the suicide, Kotwali police station in-charge Raman Kumar said, the team reached the spot and started investigation. Possession of the dead body has been kept in the mortuary of the civil hospital for post-mortem and the family of the deceased has been informed.
