In the times of strict lockdown restrictions, former mafia don Arun Gulabrao Gawli's AKA 'Daddy' second daughter Yogita married with Marathi actor Akshay Waghmare on Friday. The marriage of the famous Don's daughter was a low-key affair. The wedding was confined within the high walls of the fortress-like Dagdi Chawl in Saat Rasta area of Mahalaxmi. The relationship between India's film industry and the underworld is not new in India.
The couple tied the knot at Shankar temple in the presence of their family members without any big celebrations. Earlier, they were scheduled to get married on March 29 in a grand manner at a five-star hotel in Lower Parel. However, it was postponed due to the ongoing lockdown.
The Agripada Police was informed by the family and only three to four guests each from both families attended the wedding ceremony.
Yogita is the youngest of three children. She runs an NGO in Mumbai while her husband is an actor and the son of legendary Marathi actor Dada Kondke.
Arun Gawli had been serving a prison sentence for the murder of Shiv Sena municipal councilor Kamlakar Jamsandekar.
The underworld don was released on parole on February 27, 2020, for the wedding. After the wedding was postponed, he filed a petition to have it extended. The request was accepted and his parole has been extended until May 20.
Arun Gawli and his brother became involved with India’s underworld in the 1970s when they joined a criminal gang led by Rama Naik and Babu Reshim.
