Arvind Kejriwal falls victim to morphed video over remark on SC community; Punjab Police register FIRs

Punjab Police has registered multiple FIRs against social media users for sharing morphed videos of Arvind Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal's morphed speech video was shared the claims that the former Delhi CM had made a remark on the SC Community. As a result, the Punjab Police registered at least six FIRs, including two against Delhi-based lawyer Vibhor Anand and four others against unidentified persons, for allegedly uploading the 'morphed and edited speeches' of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor. 

In the morphed video, Arvind Kejriwal was heard saying, "Someone was saying that whoever has written the Constitution must be drunk while writing it." 

The multiple FIRs registered in Punjab Police stations state that the morphed video of Arvind Kejriwal has hurt the sentiments of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) community and can violate the peace in Punjab and other states. They further state that the video has been uploaded intentionally to tarnish Kejriwal’s image.

As per Indian Express, all six FIRs have been registered by Ludhiana city police on the complaints of local AAP leaders belonging to the Valmiki community. The FIRs have been registered under the offences of giving provocative statements to cause riots and forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other sections of the SC/ST Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act at different police stations.

An X user, Vibhor Anand, who is a Delhi-based lawyer and has more than 40,000 followers, and five unidentified people are among those who have been named in the First Information Report (FIR). Anand had shared a 9-second video of Arvind Kejriwal. Notably, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari had also shared the same clip.
