Astroworld music festival: 8 died, hundreds injured amid crowd surge at US Travis Scott’s concert

Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena said, “The incident began at around 9 pm when the crowd began to compress towards the front of the stage”.

On Friday night, at least eight people were reportedly died and hundreds were severely injured amid a chaotic scene at Travis Scott’s Astroworld music festival, as per the reports by news agency AFP. Further, the incident was confirmed by the fire authorities. 


According to the information received by Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pena, the incident occurred at around 9 pm when the crowd began to compress towards the front stage. 


Mr Pena was quoted saying, “That caused some panic and it started causing some injuries, people began to fall out, become unconscious and it created additional panic. We had at least eight confirmed fatalities tonight and scores of individuals that were injured,” he said, adding that the cause of death cannot be confirmed until medical exams are completed.

He further added that “We transported 17 patients to the hospital... 11 of those that were transported were in cardiac arrest”. Among the hospitalized, there was a 10-year-old. 


However, officials said that moreover 300 individuals were hurt during the event, including those with minor scratches and bruises.


According to the fire chief, the concert was attended by around 5,000 people. The concert was stopped as the tragic incident happened. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said that the organisers would provide the footage of the incident and reportedly, Scott was also cooperating with the cops. 


The Astrowrold is a music concert started by Scott in the year 2018.
