Changing a rather 'stronger' statement about the Rafale documents, Attorney General K.K. Venugopal has taken a U-turn by saying that the documents were 'not' stolen but 'photocopies of the original' documents have been used by the petitioners.

K.K. Venugopal, on Wednesday, in Supreme Court had said that the confidential documents related to the Rafale deal were stolen from the Defence Minister. He had also warned the concerned people of criminal investigation under the violation of the Official Secrets Act.

"I am told that the opposition has alleged what was argued (in the Supreme Court) was that files had been stolen from the Defence Ministry. This is wholly incorrect. The statement that files have been stolen is wholly incorrect," said the Attorney General as quoted by news sources.
