Myanmar, also known as Burma was controlled by militaryuntil 2011. The de-facto leader, Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi, President andleaders of various states have been detained by military again in the wee hourson Monday.
After the arrests, the military TV confirmed a state ofemergency. The military TV declared emergency for one year.
The tensions between the civilian government of Myanmarand the military intensified. After the coup attempt, the power is now vestedwith Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing. Soldiers are guarding the capital, NayPyi Taw.
According to several reports, the coup is a violation ofthe constitution of Myanmar drafter by military about a decade ago.
The United States has condemned the coup. US Secretary ofState Antony Blinken called for the release of all government officials andcivil society leaders, according to a report published in BBC.
John Sifton of Human Rights Watch said, "Themilitary junta that ruled Myanmar for decades never really stepped away frompower in the first place."
Moreover, the situation is still tense. Telecomconnections have been snapped and state broadcast TV is unable to telecast itsprograms due to the coup.
