The Austrian supermarket has been shut down since Tuesday and people were quickly evacuated after a four-inch Brazilian Wandering Spider was spotted by the store manager.

In a bizarre incident, emergency services were called in after a venomous 'black & red' spider was spotted inside an Austrian supermarket. The Austrian supermarket has been shut down since Tuesday and people were quickly evacuated after a four-inch Brazilian Wandering Spider was spotted by the store manager. Notably, the Brazilian Wandering Spider is known for its love for bananas. Not only this, Brazilian Wandering Spider bite can cause painful & permanent erections in men. As per reports, the incident took place at the Penny shop in Krems an der Donau, a town 45 miles west of Vienna. After the panic was so high that fire brigade was called in.

However, emergency services fear the spider, still at large. The services further believe that the spider may have been a highly venomous Brazilian Wandering Spider, which reaches Europe when it is tucked into bunches of bananas. For the unversed, the arachnid is one of the Earth's most poisonous spiders and it's bite can kill you in hours after causing hypothermia, blurred vision, convulsions and in some cases, erections. Coming back to the Austrian Penny Shop, an exterminator has been called and helpers have sealed all the banana crates in the store. Notably, the supermarket has been shut down for the past three days and it is expected to remain closed till next week due to spider fear. A spokesperson for the Rewe retail group said that "comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures" are now underway to prepare the store for reopening.

It is pertinent to mention here that the size and colouring of the unidentifiable spider led authorities to believe it was a Brazilian Wandering Spider, capable of emitting a deadly neurotoxin. As per authorities despite an extensive search, no spiders have been found. talking about numbers, some 4,000 people are bitten by the arachnid each year, with 0.5 percent of bites leading to death says a report.
