Madhya Pradesh High Court has rejected the bail plea ofMunawar Faruqui who is behind bars for allegedly cracking a joke that hurt'Hindu' religious sentiments.
Faruqui and his aide Nalin Yadav were detained on January2 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of Hindus. The complaint was filedby BJP MP's son who in his complaint hasstated that Munawar passed indecent remarks about Hindu deities and union HomeMinister Amit Shah during a show.
According to a report published in BBC, Faruqui is now 30years old. In a video surfaced on social networking, Munawar was seen pleaadingwith the son of a ruling BJP politician, Eklavya Gaud but to no avail.
Faruqui in a video was seen as saying, "I just wantto make people laugh. If anyone feels offended, I'll never do it again." Accordingto some reports, he has spend over 25 days in prison on the allegations of ajoke that he likely didn't crack.
Report published in BBC clearly states that eyewitnessestold reporters that Faruqui didn't crack any joke. The police has reportedlyalso admitted that there is no evidence of Faruqui cracking jokes that likelyhurt religious sentiments.
Today the High Court rejected his bail plea saying"investigation is in progress......and the possibility of collecting moreincriminating material.....cannot be ruled out."
