Meeting with farmer leaders in Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann showed a great deal of support for the Shubhkaran's family after his untimely death during a protest. CM Mann offered Shubhkaran's sister an appointment letter to a government job and gave Shubhkaran's family a cheque for Rs 1 crore during the meeting. These actions were taken in remembrance of Shubhkaran's sacrifice and to acknowledge his commitment to the cause of farmers.

Shubhkaran was killed on February 21 at the Khanori border between Punjab and Haryana. While traveling to Delhi with other protestors, he was met with force from the Haryana government in the form of tear gas and rubber bullets. The farmers wanted to stop peacefully, but law enforcement persisted in using force against them.

Another protester, Charanjit, described the appalling circumstances surrounding Shubhkaran's shooting death, which had a lasting effect on his village and supporters even after he received emergency medical attention.

Farmer leaders decided to call off a scheduled protest on July 12 in response to CM Mann's sympathetic actions and promises of support for the Shubhkaran's family. As efforts continue to address more general agricultural issues and protect the rights of farmers throughout the region, this decision signifies a brief easing of tensions.
