This bandh has been called for not fulfilling the promises made by the Central Government during the first farmer movement in 2021. SKM has urged all like-minded farmer organizations to unite and participate in the Gramin Bharat Bandh on February 16 called by the Central Trade Union. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said that United Kisan Morcha (SKM) has already announced Bharat Bandh on 16th and 'Delhi Chalo' program on 14th February. Their protest on the streets is starting again from the 16th this time with support from many truck associations as well. In light of this, here are some key points to keep in mind.

How long is the Bandh?

According to United Kisan Morcha, Bharat Bandh will start from 6 am until 4 pm. Farmers say that during Bharat Bandh, transport, private offices, village shops as well as agricultural activities and work under MNREGA will remain closed in rural areas. Along with this, industrial activity in rural areas will also be closed. Farmer organizations say that ambulances, wedding vehicles, students going for exams and medical shops will not be affected during the bandh.

Will the banks be closed during Bharat Bandh?

As of now, banks will remain open tomorrow and will function normally. The Reserve Bank of India also states that banks will remain open. Banks in India will remain closed for 10 days in the month of February. Apart from the second and fourth Saturdays, these holidays also include Sundays. However, some holidays are state-specific. That is, only a few states or territories observe bank holidays on specific dates. Farmers want to block major roads across the country.

However, farmers want to close operations of Punjab Roadways for four hours during Bharat Bandh.

Trade unions will also be involved
