Big relief to Daler Mehndi from HC: Punishment of Punjabi singer suspended in pigeon pelting case

Famous Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi has got relief from Punjab-Haryana High Court. The sentence for Daler Mehndi in the 19-year-old pigeon-pelting case has been suspended by the High Court. Daler Mehndi is currently lodged in the jail of Patiala. They will be released after the bail order reaches the jail management.

Daler Mehndi had already filed an appeal against his sentencing, but Additional Sessions Judge HS Grewal's Patiala court rejected the plea and affirmed his two-year sentence. Following the court's ruling, he was taken into custody on July 23 and lodged in Patiala Jail.

In the year 2003, a case of pigeon pelting was registered on Mehndi. After collecting significant sums of money from individuals and converting them into members of their group, Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Singh was charged with illegally transferring people abroad.

In 2018, a Patiala court sentenced him to two years, but Daler Mehndi appealed to quash the sentence. Daler's plea was rejected by the Additional Sessions Judge in Patiala, who also affirmed the punishment. He was thereafter taken into custody by the Patiala Police.
