A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation of the blast that took place on Amritsar’s Majitha Road on Tuesday morning. Police sources have confirmed that the explosion, which occurred outside the 'Decent Avenue' colony on the Majitha Road bypass, resulted in the death of a suspected terrorist. The incident took place around 9:30 am, sending shockwaves through the area and demanding a swift response from law enforcement and forensic teams.
DIG Satinder Singh revealed that the deceased was linked to a terrorist organization. According to the DIG, the individual received a photograph of the location where he was to collect an explosive device. The blast occurred as he attempted to handle the suspicious object, leading to fatal injuries. "We have recovered crucial evidence from the site, indicating a clear terrorist connection."
DIG Singh said, adding that technical and forensic teams are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a grenade or an improvised explosive device (IED). The probe remains ongoing.
Eyewitnesses described a sudden, deafening blast that left the victim severely injured, with his limbs blown off. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. The incident has caused panic in the locality, with police maintaining a heavy presence as the investigation continues.
Authorities initially suspected mishandling of explosive material, possibly by a scrap dealer. However, as the investigation progressed, officials shifted focus to a terror angle, confirming the deceased's suspected links to terrorism.
