The new team has been formed under the leadership of AIG Gursharan Singh Sandhu. In which AIG S. Rahul, AIG Ranjit Singh Dhillon, DSP Raghuveer Singh and DSP Amarpreet Singh.

The previous SIT was formed under the leadership of AIG Balraj Singh. On whom the Akali Dal had accused of revenge. Bikram Majithia, who is trapped in the drugs case, is currently lodged in Patiala Jail. He lost the election from Amritsar East.  However, his wife Ganeev Kaur Majithia has become MLA from Majitha's assembly seat.

Congress government was accused

The previous Charanjit Channi-led Congress government in Punjab had registered a drug case against Majithia as soon as the elections approached.

This case was registered on the report of STF.  In which it was alleged that Majithia helped drug smugglers while being a minister in the government. He made reconciliation between them and helped in their business.

However, the Akali Dal said that Navjot Sidhu, Charanjit Channi and Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa had filed a false case with their rival officers.

Majithia did not get bail

After the registration of the case, Majithia did not get anticipatory bail from the Lower Court to the Supreme Court. He did get some relief from the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Because of this, he managed to contest from Amritsar East. However, after this, he surrendered in court on 24 February. Even after that, he did not get bail and since then he is lodged in Patiala Jail.
