Mexico City: On Saturday, at least 20 people were killed and 54 others sustained injuries, in the explosion of a fuel pipeline in Mexico's central Hidalgo state, regional Governor Omar Fayad said.

Earlier in the day, a powerful explosion hit the ruptured pipeline in the Tlahuelilpan municipality, burning people as many as at least 350 local residents were trying to leak fuel from it.

The incident occurred amid a fuel crisis in the country sparked by the government's campaign to curb fuel stealing.
