In a massive development in Sonu Sood's legal fight against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the actor's plea. The Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the plea of Sood against a BMC notice over alleged illegal construction carried out by him at his residential building in Juhu area of Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has lodged a complaint against Sood at Juhu police station on charges of converting a 6-storey residential building into a hotel. In the complaint given by BMC, it has been said that Sonu Sood has converted the Shakti Sagar Building on AB Nair Road in Mumbai into a hotel without permission.
Justice Prithviraj Chavan, while dismissing the actor's appeal and application, said, "Law helps only those who are diligent."
Sood's lawyer Amogh Singh sought a time of 10 weeks to comply with the notice issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in October last year and requested the high court to direct the civic body to not initiate demolition action. The court said the actor had ample opportunity in the past and if required, he could approach the civic body (BMC).
"The ball is now in the office of the BMC...you (Sonu Sood) may approach them," Justice Chavan said. "You (Sonu Sood) are too late. You had ample opportunity," the judge added.
Now, if the BMC has the authority to demolish the illegal construction and even arrest Sonu Sood if he does not comply with the officials.
