A British-Sikh woman named Ramandeep Kaur Mann was sentenced to death for murdering her NRI husband Sukhjeet Singh during their holiday in India. Ramandeep Kaur Mann, 38, from Derby, was found guilty of murdering her husband Sukhjit Singh with the help of her childhood lover Gurpreet Singh alias Miththu. As per reports, Ramandeep Kaur Mann with the help of her lover smashed Sukhjit's head by hammer multiple times and also slit his throat by keeping a pillow on his face. Notably, Sukhjit was drugged as Ramandeep allegedly mixed some sedatives in his food in the night. The revelation were done when Ramandeep's 9-year-old son revealed that he saw his mother suffocating his father with a pillow.

Talking about the judgment, the court of additional district judge Pankaj Kumar Srivastava in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur has awarded the death penalty to Ramandeep and life imprisonment to Miththu following testimony by the victim's nine-year-old son. Shree Pal Verma who appeared for the State was quoted saying "He told the court how his mother and Gurpreet killed his father in his sleep in their house. During the investigation, it came to light that the woman was in a relationship with Gurpreet and they had planned to murder Sukhjit."

Shree Pal further revealed what happened on the night of September 2, 2016, and said, "Gurpreet entered the house after Ramandeep opened the gate late in the night. They hit Sukhjit with a hammer on his head and slit his neck. He woke up to noise in the room and saw his mother sitting on his father’s body and smothering him with a pillow. Gurpreet hit his (the child's) father twice with a hammer on his head. As his father was still alive, Gurpreet took out a knife from his pocket. His mother took the knife from Gurpreet and slit his father’s throat."

What is the case?

The horrific murder reportedly took place on September 2, 2016. As per reports, Ramadeep had plotted to muder Sukhjit a month before and hence she went on a month-long family vacation in UP with her husband and kids aged six and nine.

Investigations revealed that Ramandeep first sedated the entire family before slitting her husband's throat. However, one of Ramandeep's son did not eat the food which was sedated. Hence, he was able to saw what actually happened in the house. In a earlier report, the elder son of Ramandeep was quoted saying, "My dad was great but my mom was bad and I don't want to see her face because she killed my dad in front of my eyes. She kept a pillow on my dad's face and asked Gurpreet to slit his throat."

Both Ramandeep and her lover Miththu were found guilty by the court under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 34 (criminal acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). Section 4/25 of the Arms Act was also charged against Miththu.

The court termed the case as "rarest of rare" and the Judge in his order stated, "it wasn't just one man who died that day (September 2, 2016)"....only Sukhjeet was not murdered but the remaining years of an elderly widow was killed, the childhood as well as the youth of two minor children was exterminated. The children have lost the happiness which they had when their father was alive."

It is pertinent to mention here that Ramandeep's family has denied the claims that she murdered her husband. Ramandeep alleged her husband planned to sell his property and move to England, so his "family members killed him and wrongly framed her".

Ramandeep Kaur formerly worked as a shop manager at Argos in Derby, and met Sukhjit when he was working as a driver in England.
