The former Kansas City Chief’s assistant coach Britt Reid, pleaded guilty on Monday to DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) in connection with a crash earlier in 2021 that left a 5-year-old girl with a brain injury.

Aerial Young, the girl victimized in the crash, suffered from a severe traumatic brain injury a parietal fracture, brain contusions, and subdural hematomas in a three-vehicle crash on February 4, 2021.

Authorities associated with the matter found that she and another child were in a disabled vehicle on Interstate 435 in Kansas City, Missouri, when Reid's Dodge Ram -- going 84 mph less than two seconds before impact, struck the vehicle and ended up sending them in the hospital.

Upon conducting a test post-accident Reid’s blood alcohol concentration was found at 113, a number exceeding 40% of the permissible limit in Missouri.

"Mr. Reid accepted responsibility for his actions," said J.R. Hobbs, Reid's attorney. "Mr. Reid continues to be remorseful for his conduct and hopes that his plea brings some sense of justice to all he has affected."

Under a plea agreement, Reid will face a maximum of four years in prison, although it is upon the judge how long will Reid end up serving in Jail if found guilty by the jury.

"A representative of the victim’s family told the court they didn't favor the agreement," the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office acknowledged in a news release.

A financial agreement was reached with the victim’s family in November last year, with a commitment to providing the girl with a world-class medical facility and long-term financial assistance.

Reid's contract with the Chiefs was not renewed following their Super Bowl LV loss in February 2021. The proceedings of the case is scheduled for October 28th.
