BSF troops in Amritsar thwarted a drug smuggling attempt on Saturday. At about 5:30 in the evening, the troops stationed at the Border Fence in Village Daoke in Amritsar recovered pachages that are suspected to contain heroin along with Android mobile phones from a farming field.

According to reports, on January 6 at approximately 5:30 AM, vigilant Border Security Force troops stationed at the border detected a sound of something dropping near the Border Fence in the vicinity of Village Daoke, District Amritsar. Following a thorough search of the area, BSF troops successfully recovered three packages suspected to contain heroin (Gross weight - approximately 3.210 kg), securely wrapped with yellow adhesive tape and 01 Android mobile phone from a irrigation field.

Proximity to the largest producers of heroin (Afghanistan-Pakistan-Iran) has made India's border vulnerable to drug trafficking. Indigenous production of low grade heroin as well as various psychotropic and prescription drugs and their growing demand in the neighbouring countries and international market have added a new dimension to the problem of drug trafficking. The vigilant efforts of BSF have helped in thwarting another attempt at smuggling narcotics over the border from Pakistan.
