Bureau Chief of Malayalam daily 'Siraj' killed in an accident as car hit his bike

A senior journalist was killed when a bike on which he was sitting after parked on a roadside was hit by a speeding car

Thiruvananthapuram: A senior journalist was killed when a bike on which he was sitting after parked on a roadside was hit by a speeding car near Museum Police Station here in the early hours on Saturday.

The car was allegedly driven by an IAS Official in an inebriated condition and a woman was also seated in it.

The 35-year-old Senior Journalist was identified as K M Basheer, Bureau Chief of Malayalam daily 'Siraj'.

Though eyewitness said the car was driven by Survey Department Director, Sriram Venkataraman IAS, the official told the police that the car was driven by Ms. Wafa Firoze, who was along with him.

Police said CCTV visuals will be examined to ascertain the fact in view of their contradictory statements.

The IAS official, who also sustained a fracture on his hands was admitted to a private hospital here. 


 
According to the locals, the speeding car hit the bike which was parked on the roadside, at 0130 hours. Basheer who was sitting on the bike has been severely wounded leading to his death on the spot.

Basheer hailing from Malappuram is survived by his wife Jaseela and two daughters-Jenna and Asmi.
